Despite Measures, Malaria Deaths Continue In Keonjhar, Odisha
The district has witnessed implementation of many malaria control programmes for more than a decade. But social activists feel that the disease is far from being controlled. The health department had claimed that only two deaths were reported in the district in the last financial year. But activists feel that many cases go unreported from remote areas and are thus unaccounted for.

Students Find Ants In Nachos At Lunch
An elementary school in Erie County served students quite a surprise in their lunches last week: ants in the nachos. The ant-infested chips were served to ten students before anyone noticed the problem. The superintendent of the school district says thankfully no students had to be sent home early with upset stomachs.

Malaria Claims 1 More, BMC Gets Cracking
Despite a string of measures enforced by the BMC to curtail the scourge of malaria in the city, a 15-year-old girl from Wadala is suspected to have succumbed to the disease at a BMC-run hospital on Wednesday, said sources. The death takes the malaria death count this year to two.

Health Official Transferred Over Dengue Deaths
State minister for health, Dr V S Vijay, on Thursday ordered the transfer of Dr Meeran Maideen, deputy director of health services, Tirunelveli, with immediate effect, due to serious drawbacks in the three government hospital under the limits of which dengue had claimed 16 lives.

Pest-control agencies say there's been a significant jump in termite infestation at New Dubai areas, including new buildings. "We're talking about relatively new buildings with termite problems. A National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR) team has failed to spot a single breeding site for the anopheles mosquito, mainly responsible for malaria, in the city. NIMR experts visited malaria-prone wards in the city during the last two days.

Malaria Cases On The Rise In Dakshina Kannada
The malaria cases in Dakshina Kannada district have been on the rise in a significant manner as a total of 1,816 cases have been reported this year till April. Out of the 1,816 cases, 1,571 cases were reported in Mangalore city limits alone. Last year, in the same period, a total of 1,361 cases were reported.

BMC To Put Up Posters To Fight Malaria
The BMC will put up posters across residential complexes in the city to explain methods of malaria control. The civic body's pre-monsoon awareness campaign is aimed at people in housing societies who seem to assume that mosquitoes breed only in slums.
